The residents of the Jehovah Witness Residential Area (JWRA) near Nyamekrome in the New Juaben Municipality have been experiencing rampant theft cases for some time now, making residents insecure in their homes.

According to sources in the area, the thieves mostly operate during the day around 10 am when people in the area had left for work.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Jude T. Adjoe, a member of the JWRA Association as well as a victim of the theft operations in the area, said majority of the households have been visited by the thieves, usually going away with flat screen television sets and other valuables.

He recalled that in 2016 when his house was still under construction, the thieves visited the house and made away with the floor tiles, a spraying machine as well as electrical wires.

Mr Adjoe complained that the incident led to a delay in his plans to move into his home within that year.

He said it has been a year now since he relocated to the JWRA and the thieves have again visited his home, making away with a flat screen television set, laptops, mobile phones and valuables, clothes, leaving behind an old model television set.

According to him, a report was made at the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters at Galloway, which led to scene inspection but no arrest was made.

Mr Adjoe said the heads of households in the area have formed an association to ensure the security of the area.

Mrs Gifty Agyapong, a resident of the JWRA, said the continuous theft in the area had caused her to be living in perpetual fear and keeps wondering what might happen to her house when she leaves for work during the day.

According to her, the JWRA association had requested the assistance of the police to aid them in patrolling the area during the day.

Meanwhile, four police assistants have been deployed by the Agartha Police Station to patrol the area from 0800 to 1600 hours daily.
